5 Talents network Chief AI Officer Abel Pacheco The Open Door Books Podcast CRE
San Antonio, Texas · Founder of 5 Talents · Author of The Open Door

Twenty years an operator. An honest collapse. A rebuild under God.

I sold knives at twenty. At Rackspace, I progressed from individual acquisition sales into leadership of increasingly larger teams, ultimately leading a 60-person acquisition sales organization operating at a derived $69.12 million annualized recurring revenue pace. I later bought $100 million in real estate, and lost nearly all of it when the market turned. I met the Lord at the bottom in a way I never met Him at the top. What I build now, I build under Him: governed AI operating systems for business owners, as their fractional Chief AI Officer.

Who is Abel Pacheco

The person behind 5 Talents.

Abel Pacheco is a twenty year operator from San Antonio, Texas: Cutco from age twenty, fourteen years in enterprise technology, and approximately ten years at Rackspace, now Rackspace Technology. There, his acquisition-sales scope progressed from individual contributor into leadership of increasingly larger teams, ultimately a 60-person acquisition sales organization operating at a derived $69.12 million annualized recurring revenue pace. He later led more than fifteen commercial real estate acquisitions, over fifteen hundred doors, and $100 million in real estate, and lost nearly all of it when the market turned. He rebuilt on God's governing system. Today he is the founder of 5 Talents, a fractional Chief AI Officer for small and mid sized businesses, and the author of The Open Door.

The record · documented, both halves

The numbers, wins and losses, told on purpose.

Most biographies show only the wins. This one includes the loss because that is the honest record. Role dates, management scope, attainment, and the $180K to $480K MRR figures are documented in Abel's LinkedIn career history and discussed in his recorded work and The Open Door. People with direct knowledge of the Rackspace organization during Abel's tenure include co-founder and former chairman Graham Weston, former CEOs Lanham Napier and Taylor Rhodes, former sales leader Khaled Saffouri, and other leaders and colleagues in the SMB acquisition organization. They are identified as potential corroborating witnesses, not as current endorsers of every stated figure.

The story · four eras

Knives, cloud, doors, and the Door.

2000 to 2006

The knife guy.

Started at Cutco at twenty. Seller, field trainer, assistant manager, manager, regional manager. Built his first business in Corpus Christi in his early twenties, wrote a thirty thousand dollar check for marketing, interviewed thousands of people, and hired hundreds of sellers, sixty to a hundred active at any given time. A P&L in his own hands before most people finish college.

2006 to 2020

Enterprise tech: the climb.

Fourteen years in enterprise technology; ten years and one month at Rackspace, six rungs from lead generator to Sales Director. His normal role identity was acquisition sales. Nearly all of the annual business associated with his progression came from brand-new customers signed from zero. New logos were handed to install base after closing, and renewals remained with support. During approximately 2008 to 2009, Rackspace's Team Fit model created one bounded exception in which a combined acquisition and install-base crew worked a small amount of existing-customer business. His scope progressed from individual contributor, to a five-person team, to two teams, and eventually to leadership of a 60-person acquisition sales organization.

As Sales Director, Abel's LinkedIn career record states that monthly recurring revenue target and attainment grew from $180K to $480K in two years, with twenty consecutive months over 100% attainment. At its peak, the organization booked approximately $480,000 in net-new monthly recurring revenue each month. Sustained over a year, that production pace represents approximately $69 million in annualized recurring revenue. Rackspace was known for Fanatical Support and long-standing customer relationships, many of which continued for years. The $69 million figure describes the annualized pace of new recurring business produced, not cash collected in a single year.

At Rackspace, Abel worked in managed cloud and sold solutions involving technology partners including Amazon Web Services. Later, as Regional Sales Director at Connectria, he worked inside an organization distinguished by IBM Power Systems, including IBM i and AIX. Amazon Web Services and IBM were technology partners and platforms, not Abel's employers.

"I learned to lead the revenue number. But I did not learn to read the whole P&L."

2008 to the collapse

Real estate: from single family houses to commercial real estate, then the fall.

From 2008 to 2018, Abel bought eight single family houses, one at a time. He then moved into commercial real estate, led more than fifteen acquisitions, and built to a share of roughly fifteen hundred doors. He raised equity, acquired properties, managed the portfolio, and answered to investors. Then the market turned, and he lost nearly all of it. The losses affected Abel, his family, and investors.

The rebuild

Under the Doctrine.

Rebuilt under God. Wrote The Open Door: fourteen chapters on faith, artificial intelligence, and who sits at the head of the table, drawn from twenty eight years of life and experience, with AI helping him shape his spoken and written words into the finished book. Founded 5 Talents to help owners build practical AI operating capabilities with human judgment, responsibility, and governance at the center.

What is his business track record?

According to Abel's first-party LinkedIn career record and recorded archive, his Rackspace acquisition-sales scope progressed from individual contributor into leadership of increasingly larger teams, ultimately a 60-person acquisition sales organization. The approved quantified headline is the transparent $69.12 million derived annualized recurring revenue pace. As Sales Director, he states that monthly recurring revenue target and attainment grew from $180K to $480K in two years, with twenty consecutive months over 100% attainment. He later led 15+ acquisitions of properties and commercial real estate assets, 1,500+ doors, $100M total, and an honest collapse. He tells both halves on purpose.

How is the $69.12 million annualized recurring revenue pace calculated?

The figure is a transparent calculation, not a separately reported Rackspace number: $480,000 in net-new monthly recurring revenue booked each month, sustained across 12 monthly cohorts and annualized over 12 months, equals $69,120,000. The calculation assumes the recurring contracts remain active at year-end. It describes a production run rate, not cash collected in a single year. Rackspace was known for Fanatical Support and customer relationships that often continued for years.

What sources support the Rackspace record?

Role dates, management scope, attainment, and the $180K to $480K MRR figures are stated in Abel's own LinkedIn career record. The team-growth narrative is stated in Abel's recorded podcast archive and in The Open Door. These are first-party records and are labeled that way. They should not be described as independent third-party verification.
